You may find yourself in a dank jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2 for several reasons. You might trespass or start a fight with a palace guard. Whatever the reason, you need a way out. We have multiple ways to escape the Gaol in Dragon’s Dogma 2!
How to Escape a Jail Cell in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To escape from jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you have a handful of options:
- Smash the pot in the corner of your cell to uncover a Makeshift Gaol Key.
- Use a Makeshift Gaol Key from your inventory.
- Speak with one of the roaming guards to pay a fine of 10,000 gold.
Now, unless you’re positively flush with currency in Dragon’s Dogma 2, chances are you’ll want to smash the pot and free yourself. If you time everything correctly, you can unlock the gate and sprint to freedom up the stairs to your right.
That said, I fumbled. I stepped directly in front of one of the roaming guards, and despite being an escaping prisoner, they didn’t seem to care. It appears as if the moment I unlocked the cell and stepped forth, my bounty and crimes were forgotten.

How to Get Your Gear Back From Jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The reason why I stepped in front of a guard and nearly found myself in big trouble was because I was searching for my equipment. At this point in the game, I wore high-end armor worth a pretty penny and didn’t want to lose my investment. I searched high and low and found a chest in the guard’s breakroom up the stairs, but no luck.
As it turns out, you’ll get your equipment back following a stint in the Gaol the moment you step out of the tower. It didn’t auto-equip any gear, but I had everything back in my inventory!
