If you play on PC, chances are you’ve heard of Factorio. It’s one of the most iconic and often discussed factory and automation games on the market today, and at first glance, it’s also one of the most daunting. But for an indie game, even one with exceptional reviews and constant positive worth of mouth from satisfied players, asking a new player to buy the game at full price is challenging. So, does Factorio ever go on sale?
When Will Factorio Go On Sale?
Never. I hate to be one to tell you this, as I’m sure you’re looking at the game in another tab and eyeing that price tag, but Factorio doesn’t go on sale. Since its launch on Steam, Factorio has never received a discount of any kind, not even for a minor 10% off. It’s remained at its retail price tag since day one, with a slight increase upon launching into 1.0.

How Much Does Factorio Cost?
First and foremost, you should know that you can download a demo for Factorio directly from Steam. It’s an excellent snippet of the game that should allow you to test out its mechanics and playstyle before purchasing a retail copy.
Once you’re ready to buy, you can expect to pay:
- Factorio – $35.00
- Factorio: Space Age – $35.00
Now, you don’t need Space Age. It’s the first and—currently—only expansion available for the game. It launched recently and thus far has overwhelmingly positive reviews from fans, making it a worthwhile addition if you’re already a fan of the base game.
How Long Does it Take to Beat Factorio?
If you’re like me, you likely use the $1 per hour metric when deciding whether a game is worthwhile. In the case of Factorio, you can play a single save file for approximately 50 hours, give or take, depending on how you play. That said, sticking with a single playthrough for hundreds of hours is possible. You can spend infinite time optimizing your construction, expanding your factory forever, and squashing bugs.
