Delta Force – Black Hawk Down was released by Team Jade and the TiMi Studio Group on February 21, but it has quickly spiralled out of control where reviews are concerned. Black Hawk Down is the story-driven branch of Delta Force, the Battlefield-like shooter that was released in December 2024.
Black Hawk Down is a free expansion that offers players – either solo or with friends – to explore a campaign mode that replicates the events that occurred in Somalia in 1993 as part of the ‘Battle of Mogadishu’. However, critics have surfaced online stressing that the mode is ‘unnecessarily difficult’ and the overall ratings are crashing down.
Not a Good Start
Black Hawk Down looks great on the surface but is perhaps a little too challenging. That’s the consensus amongst players diving into the free Delta Force expansion, which was released on February 21.
Out of 3,406 reviews (at the time of writing) on Steam, only 35% are positive. Here are some of the most critical comments from Steam users:
- ‘So many stupid design choices that hold back what could be a really cool, if not short, single player shooter experience.’ – Basil
- ‘Unnecessarily difficult. Played it with a 2 man crew, and the last level is basically impossible.’ – Robby301
- ‘Poorly optimized, enemies spawning right on top of you and plainly unfun to play. Feels like a chore.’ – Kurtye
Delta Force is a great shooter with untold potential, even if it feels like a reskin (and a thinly veiled one at that) of Battlefield 2042. It boasts a similar UI, class system, map pool, and game feel to EA’s latest first-person shooter in the iconic series. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though – Battlefield 2042 was a shambles, so Delta Force makes for a nice alternative.
Most players are complaining that the difficulty rating in Black Hawk Down doesn’t scale appropriately to consider the number of people playing the game. If you’re playing solo, the claims are that you’ll face the same challenges as if you were in a team, and that enemies are just thrown at you for the sake of it.
On top of that, the mode is designed to be brutal and realistic, so players have no (or painfully few) checkpoints, a one-life mechanic is being used, and resources such as ammo and healing items are scarce. That’s in stark comparison to a multiplayer shooter that has quite a strong ‘arcade’ feel to it.

I honestly find it difficult, but that is what makes it fun. Who wants a game that you hop in and just “walk straight through”. Games are supposed to be challenging. If it’s too hard for you, well, go play something else that is easier. I do agree with one players statement that enemies seem to appear right on top of you. Maybe have the enemies trigger to spawn soon as you enter/pass the threshold of the house. In the open areas of the game maybe have a enemy spawn trigger based on distance. Besides that, I love the game. Black hawk down is one of my most favorite movies so I get really into it. My first few runs I would get dropped by an enemy and my eyes would be so dry cause I “forgot” to blink. Lol this is my take on it, and I hope they keep working on it.
It’s not difficult at all
I solo 1st time and went smoothly
Takes some retrying thou
It’s in poor taste to have a video game based on the Battle of Mogadishu. So many people died. It’s a slap in the face to the families left behind and, in my opinion, disrespectful as hell. Keep making your blood money.
But it’s free
Played it, hated it. Enemies do in fact spawn right on you, the enemy will immediately headshot one shot you the second you step out onto a street. Felt like such a boring chore of a game that just wasn’t fun to me.
Mom it’s too hard 😭😭😭😭😭
They need to allow for controller as well as allow for graphics settings as for so stupid reason this trash PC with and i5-7600 with 16gb ram and a 1060 6gb can’t run the game yet under the recommended it states it’s just above it, fix the F’n game China Tencent trash CCP data sender’s
I haven’t played it much but I’m not bothered by a challenge. I’m bothered that it’s not single player only. You have to play Co-op. If you don’t have a friend, they pair you with some random person and I’m tired of kids swearing at me. Calm down, it’s a game.
Sounds like a classic skill issue to me.
If you play other hardcore tactical shooters it’s pretty par for the course on difficulty. Having recently been playing nothing but Hell Let Loose, I know not to cross a street or exit a building without cover regardless of how empty the area looks and sounds.
Other than from snipers, you can still take an unrealistic amount of damage before going down. I have been thinking of it as a roguelike lol as I figure out which class seems best for solo
Never trust a critic, critics are always people who have very little knowledge on a specific title or genre of games. Leave it to the people who actually played the game for months.
