DayZ players are now free to explore Sakhal, the newest region in DayZ and the home of the Frostline DLC. Earlier today, the game was taken offline so that the update could be applied, and what an overhaul it is. With a patch notes breakdown that could flesh out a novella, Bohemia has tweaked, chopped, changed, and added so much content in and around DayZ.
It’s time to wrap up and prepare yourself – you’re heading into an enormous new map where threats linger around every turn.
Frostline DLC: Available Now
The new winter map in DayZ is called Sakhal, and it spans a whopping 83km². With this new map comes a fresh challenge, and with the cold comes a much harsher set of survival mechanics. If you’re not careful, you’ll succumb to the ice and snow as you try to navigate this enormous world.
Alongside the gargantuan map, Bohemia has added an insane amount of content to DayZ, which is almost 12 years old.
New animals have been added, along with updated fishing mechanics, new diseases, and a whole host of new cosmetics. To get around the landscape, a new boat has been introduced, and players can now equip an ice axe to fend off enemies and traverse the unwelcoming new environment.
I mentioned how lengthy the patch notes are, and that wasn’t an exaggeration. It’s worth checking them out in full, as Bohemia has addressed everything from modding to the game’s economy, and from the in-game weather to fixing dozens of issues with the game world.
Note: Bohemia has advised the following about the Frostline DLC update:
- Consider using the Steam client option to verify the integrity of the local game cache to avoid corrupted data after downloading this update.
- Consider de-fragmenting your HDD after downloading large updates.
