In a recent post on X, industry veteran and artist Nicholas Kole claimed that a fifth Crash Bandicoot game was in the works and ultimately cancelled some time ago.
This claim appeared in a thread about Project Dragon, the codename for an original IP. The embargo on its portfolio only just lifted. One fan asked if Project Dragon was related to Spyro, and Kole replied with the surprising claim about Crash Bandicoot.
Kole states that “some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts.” They did not offer further details about the game.
In another reply, they add that Project Dragon and Crash Bandicoot 5 are separate cancelled projects. They clarify these were “two totally separate cancelled projects at two different studios.”
In May 2024, Toys For Bob did appear to gear up for a major announcement. Its official site updated with a new logo, teasing a Tiki Mask. This is possibly a nod to the Crash Bandicoot series, but some speculate it’s a reference to Spyro instead.
Toys For Bob recently secured a publishing partnership with Xbox for its next game, but it still hasn’t announced the nature of the title.
Last April, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time crossed 5 million copies sold since its original launch in 2020.
