There’s a particular style of game that I tend to favor a controller for, and oddly enough, the indie farming genre is one of them. For instance, a game like Stardew Valley plays exceptionally well with a controller or Steam Deck. As Chef RPG is similar to the latter, one would expect the game to offer full controller support, but does it?
Can You Play Chef RPG With a Controller?
Unfortunately, Chef RPG does not currently offer controller support. However, if you use a community layout on, say, the Steam Deck or ROG Ally, you should be able to play the game relatively well. It won’t be super intuitive or easy, but you’ll have an opportunity to check out Chef RPG on Steam Deck, and that’s pretty cool.
However, if you want full, official controller support, it’s coming! Developer World 2 Studio has already announced that it is working on controller support for the game, but it won’t launch until a few weeks after the Early Access release on September 12.
The game supports cloud saves on Steam so you can get by with a mouse and keyboard for now. Then, when controller support launches, hook up your favorite device and continue your game without losing any progress!

Where to Play Chef RPG
Currently, there’s only one place to play Chef RPG: Steam. The game went through a lengthy, successful Kickstarter to launch on PC. As of right now, that’s the only system where you can buy and play the indie RPG. There is a chance it launches elsewhere, should the title launch successfully to the masses.
I have a few hours in the game since its launch and thoroughly enjoy the experience. I think it would do exceptionally well on the Xbox Series X|S, but I want to play on Steam Deck more than anything else!
What do you think of Chef RPG? Let me know in the community forums; I would love to discuss the game with others! In the meantime, check out the Chef RPG achievements!
