Where to Get a Chainsaw in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster features a wide variety of weapons and items that you can use to slay the undead outright or inconvenience them. But there’s one tool you can find early in the game that’s helping me clear entire hordes from the plazas, and you should go out of your way to find one for yourself. Here is where to get a chainsaw in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster!

There are two locations in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster where you can find the full-size chainsaw: McHandy’s Hardware (Al Fresca Plaza) and Crislip’s Home Saloon (North Plaza). You’re more likely to run across McHandy’s Hardware first, conveniently where you can find a sledgehammer and sickle, which deal a ton of damage to zombies. But we’re shopping for a chainsaw right now, right?

Inside McHandy’s Hardware, you’ll find five chainsaws on the floor before the first shelf just inside the entrance. You cannot store them in your inventory, only in your hands, so you can only carry one at a time.

Furthermore, don’t expect the chainsaw to last forever. It runs on gasoline, and you cannot refill the tank once it runs dry. You have a limited time to rev and use the chainsaw, mowing down entire groups of zombies or cultists in your path before ditching the weapon for something else. On average, you can score about 20 hits with the chainsaw.

While you can use the chainsaw to slice down a single zombie, it wastes its potential. The chainsaw excels when you rev its engine and sprint through a horde, mowing down tens of zombies in a row.

After your first encounter with the cultists in Willamette Mall, you’ll occasionally stumble on groups of them standing in the middle of a plaza on either side of the walkway, blocking the path. I love to use the chainsaw to run through the cultists, clearing the path and eradicating a nuisance.
