Activision is Aware That Bizarre Skins Are Making Call of Duty ‘Look Stupid’, It’s Claimed

Activision has been hellbent on jamming as many crossovers into the Call of Duty universe as possible these days. We’ve seen some bizarre topics surface, leading to inane in-game events and laughable skins that have players craving something a little more grounded.

In a recent claim from a prolific Call of Duty insider, it was suggested that Activision is acutely aware of the feedback from the wider community suggesting that Call of Duty is becoming a laughing stock because of these weird skins and irrelevant crossovers.

Self-Awareness is Key

In a post on social media, TheGhostofHope gave feedback about the performance of Warzone and how Verdansk has boosted the game’s player count on all platforms.

He then turned to talk about the future of Warzone, suggesting that Activision’s teams are proposing taking a more restrained approach to skins and bundles in the game:

They are talking about showing more restraint with Warzone for skins/bundles/microtransactions. Crossovers are ‘printing money’ but they hear the criticism that the game is starting to look stupid.

Gone are the days when people ran around Call of Duty dressed exclusively in milsim outfits. The rise of the free-to-play battle royale platform meant that microtransactions had to be ramped up, thus leaving us with countless crossovers and collaborations with musicians, television shows, movies, and other games.

They might be ‘printing money’, but perhaps die-hard Call of Duty fans are growing tired of the number of neon-lit, over-the-top, impossible outfits in the game.

  • What Activision need to do is enable players to select a “realism” mode, whereby you only get into a match with t non fortnite style skins. I’ve had enough of being killed by turtles and chameleons now, it removes my ability to hide from the fact that I’m probably actually being beaten by little kids!

  • They need to work on remakes of Tony Hawk Underground, Nightmare Creatures, American Wasteland, Prototype, True Crime, Tenchu, The Simpsons Hit & Run, Spyro done right, make Blur 2, proper Crash 4, and on the Xbox side Banjo, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, Kameo, Mech Assault, Brute Force, Blinx, Magatama, Phantom Dust, Whacked, Fuzion Frenzy, Quantum Redshift, Kakuto Chojin sequel, Tao Feng sequel, Kung Fu Chaos sequel. Over on licenses get Spawn and The Darkness have Infinity Ward, Treyarch, Radical, Beenox make open world superhero games maybe get the DC license too finally make open world Batman Beyond and Nightwing games.

  • Honestly i dont think it matters. The COD games are all trash and no self respecting FPS player should play that garbage in the first place. Unfortunatly due to the last few BF games sucking hard i have spent the last 6 or 7 years playing this drivel. Time of my life i wish i could have back im so desperate for a good FPS ive even started playing multiplayer on Halo infinite which by the way is a million times more fun then COD and has actually been reteaching me to be better at FPS games after years of COD making me decline.

  • I’ve bought a few bundles like a TMNT pack that have an unrealistic operator, but usually that is for other items in the bundle like emotes or finishing moves. When it comes to the operator skins I prefer realistic skins, and can tolerate some of the crossovers that at least have realistic textures. What I can’t tolerate and will never buy are the skins that have cartoon-like appearances with no texture that look straight out of Fortnite.

  • These goofy ones are ridiculous. The Jay and silent Bob were funny though. I’ve bought a few, ghillie suits mostly. Or for specific guns that came in the pack. But it’s been a while since I’ve bought more than just the battlepass

  • I cannot for the life of me understand how we have created a generation of people who think they are entitled to a particular aesthetic on a piece of art that they didn’t help to create. The game is an arcade shooter, no one in war gets shot 3 times, heals in 10 seconds and gets back to war. No one in Delta force or The SEALs is practicing their jump slide accuracy. Or jumping down a 3 story elevator shaft and then solo engaging 3 people and winning. They don’t practice shooting running people as they jump off the roofs of buildings either. Any claims that my hot chick with a unicorn horn and a fat dumpy is ruining your experience because it’s unrealistic is dumb at best.

  • I’d pay for a milsim filter bundle that prevents me from seeing these ridiculous skins and kill effects. You’re more than welcome to pay $20-30 for the Bosco The Clown that causes enemies to explode into puffs of confetti, but I don’t want to see it. Instead I enable my filter and while you see that stuff on your end, I don’t, I just see a random basic military guy without all the garage

  • “…they hear the criticism that the game is starting to look stupid.” – STARTING?!? These skins have looked horrible since S1 at least, and it’s not like there’s more total skins in the lobby, the game just goes through phases where everyone is wearing the same ugly crap (squid game green jumpsuit, then terminator, then TMNT). I played enough to master prestige and get Dark Camo and chose to quit because the game just looks so trash.
