The future of Bungie and Destiny 2 is changing in a major way, especially when it comes to future updates and expansions to the game.
In a new report from Jason Schreier, Bungie is no longer planning to release “regular paid expansions” for the game. Sales of each expansion have continued to fall year over year, leading to a change in approach. Instead of the larger expansions, Bungie will do more smaller-scale updates. These updates, Schreier said, will be released for free and coming with “overhauls to activities that it hopes will appeal to hardcore players.”
“Other vague plans for the future include a storyline that will feature characters and worlds that Destiny has not yet explored,” the report adds.
As far as another Destiny game, namely Destiny 3, that’s still not in the works. The game is not, nor has it ever, been in development. Instead of a new Destiny, Bungie wants to make Destiny 2 a more attractive game for players.
“Bungie is instead looking to create a smoother onboarding process for Destiny 2, such as a rebranding, to attract new players who might be turned off by a game that can now feel impenetrable to those unfamiliar with its ample proper nouns.”
Insider Gaming reached out Bungie for comment on the report, but that request was not answered.

It’s over… destiny will die. No one will be playing.
Worst move ever!
New players? How about retention of OG players! Stop the repeat content season after season- and stop giving away weapons after OG have grinded for hours on an activity! I mean You really gave it to us all when you vaulted everything and then gave it back 2 years later – ridiculous
Just fix all of cheating and it will attract players that left.
So basically D2 is dead. Not a chance in he** this game will survive without major expansions, least of all ones that are ‘free’.
Bungie made that “no paid expansions” promise way back before the release of the original Destiny, and immediately broke it.
Actually, we don’t know that for sure, and what we think we know is this: no future expansions — regardless of payment.
If they really want this game to be playable and have a longer life cycle for years to come.
1. Make a offline version with the options to play online. (Like borderlands) so if server crashes, it won’t completely ruin the player experience.
2. Make some randomized levels so the levels don’t feel old.
3. Stop Nerfing, weapons or changing weapons and armor( if it came out strong , why change it if you tested it before release?)
4. If people complaining about different classes being too strong. Then join ’em because not everyone gonna be happy and not everyone gonna be satisfied.
One other thing. If we buy something that’s past $40 . Make it worth it. And don’t take out what we paid because it makes the content not as valuable as when we first bought it and it’s bad enough your games are online only. We basically paying for the experience and not for actual keeps.
I got tired of all of the nerfing all of the balance changes was annoying every time I would try to grind for weapon or if I did get a weapon here comes a Nerf I got sick of it
The whisper of the worm sniper rifle are growing so hard for that weapon in the mastery they turned around and left it for no reason at all I just don’t want to play it no more ice be addicted to destiny 2 it’s not the games fault it’s the developers they ruined the whole game for me
