2K has been holding off on announcing the official release date for Borderlands 4. We don’t need to go psycho anymore though because the first major State of Play Event has answered our prayers.
Borderlands 4 is promising to be a different experience from recent entries. Changing the game’s humor and looking to refresh the familiar formula. We’ve seen a handful of gameplay trailers and teasers so far, but no release date.
The February 12 Sony State of Play put our questions to bed once and for all by cementing a September 23 release date.

Borderlands 4 is scheduled to release on September 23 this year, and unless something goes wrong, expect this to be the official date.
We got our first proper look at Gearbox’s new sequel with a gameplay trailer at The Game Awards 2024. But this was still only a snippet of the full package. Fast forward to Sony’s February 2025 State of Play, and a new one-minute release trailer broke the news for all Borderlands fans were waiting for.
The gameplay looks graphic and glorious and while Borderlands 4 is looking to reinvent itself in 2025, old-school fans shouldn’t be disappointed. Borderlands 3 was also released in September of 2019, meaning Borderlands 4 is carrying on tradition. Borderlands 4 also looks to offer a seamless world, getting rid of loading screens and biomes connected by loading screens.
New vehicles, a Grappling Hook, and a whole new chapter in the Borderlands universe await come September 23. We can’t wait to see what other surprises 2K has in store for its latest looter shooter sequel.
Also, check out the positive reception an ill Borderlands fan gave the game, they described it as “amazing,” and this should make you as excited as it makes us.
