Black Myth: Wukong offers approximately 80 bosses for the player to beat. Many of these are optional bosses you can completely ignore if you wish, though I recommend you tackle them at least once for the experience and rewards. But one early in the game proves challenging to those still learning the combat mechanics. Here’s how to beat Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong!
Where to Find Wandering Wight
First and foremost, you must hunt your prey. You can find the Wandering Wight in the Forest of Wolves. More specifically, he’s just down the path from the Outside the Forest Shrine, over the small bridge with the Wolf Guai.
Trust me when I tell you, you’ll hear and spot him quickly. It’s the giant baby stomping about the clearing in the woods—hard to miss that one!
How to Defeat Wandering Wight
First and foremost, before you attack the Wandering Wight, I recommend exploring the rest of this zone. In the far back, past the large wooden bridge overlooking the river that cuts through the area, there’s another arena with a second optional boss. This boss is Guangzhi. He’s tough but easier to defeat than Wandering Wight. Plus, upon beating Guangzhi, you’ll receive Red Tides, a Spell that allows you to transform into Guangzhi and deal fire damage for a short period. It’s a unique Spell in that, while in this transformation form, you won’t take damage. Instead, any damage dealt to you reduces the transformation duration. It’s extremely helpful against Wandering Wight!
Now, on to the actual boss fight you’re here to learn about!
If you time your approach, you can gain the upper hand and dish out a full light attack combo by waiting for the Wandering Wight to turn its back on you and walk toward the backside of the arena. By now, you should have Immobilize, which you’ll want to time appropriately, too. Follow up on your first combo with Immobilize to launch immediately into a second attack. You may not have enough time to finish the combo, but you can still deal much damage before the fight begins in earnest.
But now, you’ve gained the Wandering Wight’s attention and disdain. He’s a powerful baby with potent area-of-effect attacks that will end your run in a single shot if you’re not careful. Specifically, his ground slam attack that rips up the earth around him in a growing circle will lead to tears if you’re not careful.
Wandering Wight’s attacks include a ton of wind-ups, and he telegraphs his upcoming assault well before he launches an attack at you. Use this time to prepare your dodge. His attacks usually come with multiple hits, so dodge them all, and then when the baby stops for a breather, rush in and launch an attack of your own. If you can land a combo, you’ll stagger the boss. He’s quite susceptible to stagger. There are two to watch out for, with the first being a hunched-over crying form that will allow you to land a second combo if you’re quick enough. The second stagger sees the Wandering Wight fall back onto the ground, leaving you free to deal as much damage as possible before he gets back on his feet.
The key to defeating the Wandering Wight is to capitalize on every opening, but don’t get too greedy. Despite his size, he’s quick. After unleashing a powerful move, you’ll have a small opening to deal a bit of damage, and then he’ll launch into another attack. Take advantage of the gaps!
