How to Beat Lingxuzi in Black Myth: Wukong

Your first genuine challenge in Black Myth: Wukong, at least one you must defeat to progress the story, is Lingxuzi. He’s the first Yaoguai King boss fight in Chapter 1, at the end of Forest of Wolves. Trust me when I say it’s a challenging but manageable fight once you learn his moveset. Here’s how to beat Lingxuzi in Black Myth: Wukong!

Finding Lingxuzi

As you explore the Forest of Wolves, you’ll encounter the Wandering Wight. He’s a challenging baby-like entity that stomps about the arena and causes earthquakes. It’s a brutal fight, and you’re better off running past him for now. You can always return later when you’ve leveled a bit more. But the path to continue the story lies behind him, in a cave just barely lit with a torch, indicating it’s a pathway for you to follow.

Follow the cave and the walkway around the side of the cliff, and then you’ll encounter a handful of enemies to fight. One at the top of the hill is firing flaming arrows, so be wary of his aim and range. But they’re measly roadblocks compared to Lingxuzi, who waits for you in the temple just up the hill.

Before you fight him, however, there’s a Shrine at the entrance and a handful of harvestable resources in the immediate area, along with a chest in the far right corner of the courtyard.

First and foremost, before you ever enter the gate leading into the arena, drink an Evil Repelling Medicament to boost Damage Reduction for the boss fight. It doesn’t last the duration of the fight, but you should have a chance to use another mid-fight.

Lingxuzi moves quickly around the arena, and, similar to the Leonine Misbegotten in Elden Ring, he will enter a rampage and throw himself at you to deal extraordinary damage. His attacks prove swift, and he never strikes once, always multiple times, so be wary of a follow-up attack. You’ll want to dodge underneath him or around the side but more to his rear than directly to either side. Black Myth: Wukong has far fewer I-frames than other Soulslike games.

The key to defeating Lingxuzi is to keep up the momentum. As said, he moves swiftly about the arena, leaping up to the rooftops and swiping at you with those massive claws. Lingxuzi will occasionally stop at the arena’s edge to lick his paw. This is your opportunity to rush forward and land a few light attacks.

However, if Lingxuzi stops in his tracks and starts to charge, move away. He’s charging up a devastating howl attack that will severely damage you if you’re within its range.

Lastly, Lingxuzi will leap high into the air and dive at you with a chomp attack. You must dodge his teeth before he clamps down on you; otherwise, you risk taking much damage. But if you can dodge-roll beneath him or to the side, you can land a few strikes before he recovers from the landing.

Most importantly, don’t get greedy. This is a battle of attrition, and he’s bigger and stronger than you are. When you see Lingxuzi raise a claw to swipe, prepare to dodge. Once his hit lands, rush in and land a hit or two. Rinse and repeat this process until you whittle him down.

Furthermore, don’t be afraid to use Immobilize to give yourself some breathing room. He won’t remain frozen forever, but it’s long enough to heal or pop another Evil Repelling Medicament to improve Damage Reduction.
