UPDATE: Battlefield Labs has been confirmed by EA on Monday.
ORIGINAL: A planned announcement of ‘Battlefield Labs’, which is new a new community test environment for the next Battlefield game has leaked online.
The Battlefield Labs Community Test Environment has accidently been posted early to the Battlefield 4 menu and was promptly captured and reposted to the Battlefield Reddit.
The description reads,
“Battlefield Labs is a new exclusive testing environment connecting a selected number of players directly with our developers. You’ll test while providing us with crucial feedback in order to make the best Battlefield possible. We’re kicking things off with players in Europe and Norther America, before looking to expand in the future. While spaces are limited, we encourage everyone to sign up.”
The announcement of Battlefield Labs is scheduled to take place in the coming hours, with DICE expected to make the announcement at 5PM CET / 8AM PDT.
At the time of writing, the QR code takes you to a 404 link, but that should be updated after the announcement.
According to sources, the announcement has already been shared with select media and content creators, which contains a 4-5 minute video explaining Battlefield Labs, as well as 10-15 seconds of pre-alpha gameplay.
DICE’s decision to bring back the Community Test Environment will be a warm welcome to fans following the disastrous launch of Battlefield 2042, which saw many long-time fans of the franchise move to other games. Its fumbled launch still has players doubting the future of Battlefield, which comments on all of the announcements so far encouraging others not to pre-order the game and to wait until gameplay is shown, or until the game has fully released.
