Assassin’s Creed Shadows Length Explained

Ubisoft is known for making long Assassin’s Creed games, and Shadows looks like another sizable proposition. There’s a gulf in content between AC Mirage and Valhalla—the last two Assassin’s Creed games—so let’s see where Shadows falls.

Assassin’s Creed has become the most iconic example of Ubisoft’s open-world formula. Large-scale collect-a-thons teeming with main missions, side quests, secrets, and more. The recent AC trilogy of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla were some of the biggest AC titles ever, and they gradually increased in size. Valhalla was monstrously big, and became even more bloated with its DLC.

2023’s AC Mirage stripped the experience back to fall in line with old-school entries. With all this said, let’s see what approach Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes.

How Long is Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Complete?

A normal playthrough of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to take anywhere between 40-80 hours.

The information comes from an interview between popular social media user @Genki_JPN and Assassin’s Creed Shadows creative director Jonathan Dumont.

Genki broke down the interview into bullet points and said: “Main story is 30-40 hours long.

This is a pretty high figure for a campaign length. But I’m trying to break down a typical Assassin’s Creed Shadows playthrough. So, if you complete campaign, tick off a bunch of side content, and hunt down extras to pad out your runtime, I think 40-80 hours is spot on.

How Long to Complete Everything in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

A completionist run of Assassin’s Creed Shadows likely requires over 100 hours of your free time.

Again, using Genki’s interview as a basis, they say Shadows has: “Above 80 hours or much more with side content.” From the sounds of it, Shadows is somewhere between Odyssey and Valhalla for total completion. The statement above to me screams a hundred hours of content if your goal is to see and do everything.

I had the opportunity to interview Assassin’s Creed Shadows Creative Director Jonathan Dumont. Here are some of the key points: – Now was the right time for Japan because the team really wanted to do it and it was a dream for them. – Japan needed movement in the natural world…

This is also on the basis you don’t die, and don’t get stuck, and let’s face it, we’re all human. You’re likely to get a lot of value for money. Plus, if you claim Assassin’s Creed Shadows pre-order bonuses ahead of the full release date, you can score a ton of new story content with pre-order goodies.

Ubisoft is presumably crossing all of its fingers and toes hoping Assassin’s Creed Shadows does well. The company needs a big win, and current pre-orders are looking good. If you’re interested, check out Shadows’ Xbox Game Pass and Early Access possibilities ahead of launch.

Is this the beginning of a new chapter for Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Has Ubisoft learned its lesson from recent releases?
