A New Banjo-Kazooie Game Is Coming, Insider Claims

After years of wishing and hoping, a new Banjo-Kazooie game could finally be on the way.

According to known insider NateDrake on the ResetEra forums, a Banjo-Kazooie game is in development at Microsoft. He didn’t give much in terms of details of the project aside from it not being officially greenlit until “last year”.

“It’s still an active project, but it didn’t get the green light until early last year,” NateDrake said. “There is a lot to do and development can change a lot (abandoned ideas, internal reboots, etc.).”

Insider Gaming has yet to independently verify NateDrake’s claims of a new Banjo-Kazooie game. However, the insider has been accurate in the past with their information, including recently regarding the new Arkane Lyon game being announced at The Game Awards (Blade) as well as a new F-Zero game (F-Zero 99).

To add fuel to the Banjo-Kazooie fire, Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently singled out the franchise and its fans in an interview with Windows Central.

“You’ve seen from our history that we haven’t touched every franchise that people would love us to touch — Banjo fans, I hear you,” he said at the time. “But it is true that, when we find the right team, and the right opportunity, I love going back to revisit stories and characters that we’ve seen previously.”

Banjo-Kazooie hasn’t seen a true main console entry since 2000’s Banjo-Tooie. There were a couple of handheld games in the early-mid 2000s — Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty’s Revenge and Banjo-Pilot for the Game Boy Advance. There was also Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts in 2008, but that game was such a deviation from the first two games, that it’s regarded more of a spin-off than anything else.

      • We need a new Conker but Microsoft would find a way to ruin it just look at what they did to Battletoads it’s looks even worse because all Battletoads needed was the Streets of Rage 4 treatment simple even Sega found a way to treat their IP better but not Microsoft

  • The old rumor is Sumo is making it but since they own Vicarious now just have them take the IP and remake the first 2 games

    • Exactly they own Vicarious now they should be treated like Bluepoint pull them away from Blizzard and let them remake some classics I honestly hated TFB’s Spyro remake and wished VV made it instead. Give them Banjo, Conker, Kameo, JFG, Tenchu, Otogi, THUG, THPS, Prototype, True Crime, Mech, Crimson Skies, and others give them the Crash and Spyro licenses because TFB sucks.

      • They have all this money now they could easily buy the FASA stuff for cheap and Warhammer Phil and his team are just that out of touch

    • They outsourced Perfect Dark look how bad that’s turning out since the new team is now facing layoffs, potential closure, and they’re priority is Tomb Raider so until that comes out Perfect Dark is on the back burner same with Fable where they split development

  • Where’s Mech Assault, Kameo, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies, Quantum Redshift, Kung Fu Chaos, Fusion Frenzy, Brute Force, Blinx, Voodoo Vince, Kakuto Chojin, Nightcaster, Phantom Dust, Magatama, Jet Force Gemini, Battletoads, Conker, where are those Phil?! Battletoads should have been handled by DotEmu not what they made.

    • Yes Phil should have brought all of those back already he’s been there for 10+ years also Tao Feng too and how long ago was Perfect Dark reboot shown that game I assume has been cancelled another L

    • Give them time let them learn from mistakes they can easily get dotemu to make battletoads in time without the awful dark queen redesign but all this other stuff will come back in time some studios will work on this stuff while other things need a studio and this is why microsoft needs to buy ea next then they’ll be on full cylinders

    • The Phantom Dust creator has a new studio and he wants to remake it still so I don’t know why they don’t let him I mean they own a ton of studios who could support the project now and Vicarious or Blizzard NY has a ton of experience on remakes

  • They own ABK now so give it to Vicarious Visions let them give it the N Sane trilogy treatment and let them remake Pro Skater 3 and 4.

  • What happened to Killer Instinct? They’ve been teasing that too for a while first the rumor they want to outsource to NWay or Dimps, then that Bandai Namco was making it, and now out of the blue 10 years later a new patch is released by Iron Galaxy it’s just confusing either make a new game or don’t you won’t find mega success when you wait this long.

    • Give Xbox time to cook they need to buy EA next then watch KI, PD, Halo, all of it will be back they just need a in house engine and teams

  • It shouldn’t take this long to make a game but only Xbox can ruin things Cry On, Phantom Dust remake, Scalebound, Killer Instinct, Conker 2, Kameo 2, Banjo 3, where’s Mech Assault 3 or a new Crimson Skies with Uncharted elements and open world?

  • Another game they have no idea about how long ago was State of Decay 3 shown? They’re funding Ark 2 as well and got some exclusivity on Stalker 2.

    • Perfect Dark and Fable as well they have exclusivity to Darktide and it’s on Game Pass but no promotion just facepalm

  • Back when Banjo released, it was trying to top Super Mario 64.
Banjo had more personality, more freedom, and you could transform in a different creature in each level for new move-sets and unique puzzles.

In a lot of ways, Mario Odyssey is trying to top Banjo. More characters and interesting worlds, there’s more freedom with collecting Moons (unlike the list of Star goals in older Marios), and you can transform into ANY enemy (and some objects) in every level

Now, Banjo has to try and top Mario Odyssey. Good luck to the team. We’re rooting for you

  • They ruined Battletoads so who’s making this. They need to right that wrong just let the Streets Of Rage 4 team make a new Battletoads and pretend the last game never happened. Honestly Microsoft own the studio who remade Crash just have them remake Banjo and other games.
