Fallout 76 PS5 and XBOX Series Versions Finally Being Tested

Bethesda Game Studios has confirmed that, starting this month, native versions of Fallout 76 on both PS5 and XBOX Series platforms will enter a testing phase, ready for launch later this year. The digital-only versions will be playable for anyone who owns the XBOX Series X|S and PS5 versions of the game.

This brings long-awaited updates for the open-world MMORPG, which should have arguably arrived years ago, but better late than never, right?

Fallout 76 Current-Gen Upgrade Incoming

It was way back in October 2025 that Bethesda Game Studios unveiled the current-generation version of Fallout 76, destined to arrive this year on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. It’s almost time for that drop to be realized, but first, a testing period will take place.

The team wrote in a new blog post:

We’re excited to announce that during the month of June we will be kicking off public testing of the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5/Pro versions of the game. Available to everyone who owns Fallout 76, you will be able to download the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 test versions from the Xbox and PlayStation Stores.

But what are the benefits of the current-gen overhaul of Fallout 76? That was outlined too:

  • Targeted 60 FPS across Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PS5 Pro
  • Improved draw distances
  • Improved shadows
  • 4K resolution (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series X, Xbox One X, PS5 Pro
  • VRR (on compatible displays) on Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, PS5 Pro
  • PS5 and PS4 Pro will support 1440p, while previous generation platforms will continue to support 1080p

More importantly, it sounds like there won’t be too long to wait for the full launch, as Bethesda has advised the update will launch later this summer. This is great news for console-based Fallout 76 fans, of course. It shouldn’t need to be said, but most of these innovations have been available to PC players basically since day dot.
