Marathon Devs Reveal ‘Sponsored Survival’, a PvP-Lite Mode

Marathon’s Season 2 goes live today, and with it, players get a new PvP-lite-focused experimental mode, Sponsored Survival, with lower risk.

Players have been waiting for the new season for some time, especially since the developers announced that Marathon would receive two new experimental PvE modes in the new season. A new experimental mode is now already live and will remain accessible until June 9. Check out how it works below:

Marathon’s New Experimental Mode Starts as PvE, But Soon Lets Rooks In

Bungie has published a new blog post introducing players to the experimental Marathon game mode, Sponsored Survival. In this mode, players find themselves alone on the map, which is set in the new Night Marsh Zone. This allows them to explore and loot freely without the distraction of other players. However, it won’t be completely danger-free, as players will still encounter UESC, which can be quite challenging, along with new enemies to face later as well.

After a period of time, backfilled Rooks will enter the map. They can choose to team up with others or take on the map alone. The objective of this mode is to survive until the final exfiltration, with matches running on an 18-minute timer. Once the timer reaches zero, players must rush for the final exfil. However, things change at this point. During the exfil, players will have two options: they can either negotiate a temporary truce to exfiltrate together or turn their weapons on each other in the dead of night.

In other news, in a bid to save Destiny, fans have rallied behind a Destiny 3 petition, and it’s accrued more signatures than Marathon’s peak player count. Additionally, Marathon’s failure to deliver has had a massive impact on Sony and Bungie, with a $765 million impairment loss being recorded.
