Several developers at Amazon Games’ King of Meat developer, Glowmade, have announced they will be made redundant in January 2026.
The news comes following what sources described to Insider Gaming as a ‘disastrous launch’ of the studio’s game King of Meat, which failed to meet internal expectations by a significant margin.
According to documentation provided to Insider Gaming, under the condition that they do not go public, leadership was looking for the game to hit a concurrent player count of at least 100,000. According to sources, the game failed to hit 1000 consistently across all platforms, with SteamDB showing a concurrent player peak of just 320.
That’s despite a multi-million dollar marketing budget for the game, which included a dedicated video from Mr Beast’s Gaming YouTube channel with a custom set and dozens of content creators. Other marketing avenues included custom-wrapped buses in London and an animated TV show pilot.
It’s understood that the studio began discussions with staff about voluntary redundancies earlier this month, affecting around a dozen people. Sources who spoke to Insider Gaming under the condition that they remain anonymous, as they were not authorized to talk about the company’s internal communication, said that the layoffs came despite leadership assuring staff earlier this year that they had the runway to keep going.
It’s currently unclear what Glowmade’s plans are for King of Meat and any future projects.
