Xbox Game Pass is a service from Microsoft that gives you access to a number of features and games across PC, console, and even the cloud. Some features include access to online game play on Xbox consoles as well as the ability to play hundreds of games without the need to purchase them individually. While it sounds like a great deal, and for many it is, there could come a time when you may not want to keep your membership. Should that happen, how can you cancel your Xbox Game Pass subscription?
Below you’ll find out the best ways to end your Xbox Game Pass membership whether it be via PC or Console.
How To Cancel Xbox Game Pass Online (PC or Mobile)
The easiest way to cancel Xbox Game Pass is through Microsoft’s website:
- Go to the Microsoft Services & Subscriptions page
- Visit account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the account linked to your Game Pass subscription.
- Find your Xbox Game Pass subscription
- Look under Subscriptions for the plan you’re subscribed to, such as Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, Game Pass Essential, or PC Game Pass.
- Select “Manage”
- Click Manage next to your subscription.
- Choose “Cancel subscription” or “Turn off recurring billing”
- Follow the instructions that may follow.
How To Cancel Xbox Game Pass on Console
If you don’t want to use your phone or PC to cancel, players can also cancel their membership directly on their Xbox console:
- Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide.
- Go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Subscriptions.
- Select your Xbox Game Pass subscription.
- Choose Cancel subscription or Turn off recurring billing.
Will I Get A Refund After Canceling?
While it’s not certain every time, there may be instances where canceling your Xbox Game Pass subscription will entitle you to a refund. Microsoft’s refund policy is as follows:
You can receive a refund within 30 days of your initial purchase or before your first recurring billing date (whichever is sooner) by canceling your subscription in the steps that are outlined in the section “Canceling a subscription.”
In addition, you’re entitled to a refund of your most recent recurring billing charge if you cancel your subscription within 30 days after payment. This refund right is limited to one time per Microsoft account, per Xbox subscription product.
This refund policy doesn’t affect any additional rights you may have under applicable law and doesn’t apply to prepaid retail subscription codes, which are subject to the return policies of the retailer from which you purchased the code.
What Happens After You Cancel Xbox Game Pass?
- You’ll keep access to all Game Pass games until your current billing period ends (unless you canceled immediately and received a refund).
- Any discounted purchases—members get 20% off the purchase of select games in the library—you made through Game Pass remain yours.
- Games you installed through Game Pass will no longer be playable once the subscription ends unless you buy them separately.
Can You Rejoin Xbox Game Pass After Canceling?
Yes. You can re-subscribe at any time through the Microsoft Store, Xbox app, or console.

Just cancelled my plan. See this was good for someone like me who doesn’t follow what games are coming out etc. Jumping the price to $30 monthly is far too high at $360 a year! I was able to browse games & see if it’s something I’ll like to play so killing this off for me will now hurt Microsoft in the end. I’ll be buying physical copies now.
