FromSoftware’s Bloodborne is still talked about now, and will probably continue to find its way into conversations for many more years to come. The Souls title’s dystopian, Lovecraftian iconography is as eyecatching as any the company has produced, but the opening section of the game was nearly different—as shown in an interesting Bloodborne video.
Millions of us have woken up in Iosefka’s Clinic, ready to go on a deadly journey. You encounter a Wolf Beast almost immediately, and it’s an unwelcome beginning to an unwelcoming experience. It still sticks out in my mind, but, like me, you’re about to discover that what you know nearly wasn’t in Bloodborne.
Iconic Bloodborne Beginning Wasn’t Always The Case

Content creator Lance McDonald is known for unearthing ‘lost’ content. Unseen videos of bosses and areas that never made the final cut in various games. Their July 10 Bloodborne video looks at the “Unseen history of Bloodborne’s most iconic shortcut.”
The 27-minute video shows the ins and outs of Iosefka’s Clinic. We see what it looks like in the final version, and the conventional way to open the graveyard area through the Forbidden Woods.
However, the video shows how the Hunter would’ve been able to access more areas of Iosefka’s Clinic from the get-go, not ordinarily reachable until much later in the game, in the eventual release.
The footage also highlights how the graveyard was immediately accessible in the early planning stages.
It’s a fascinating deep dive into Bloodborne’s opening gameplay. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the game or curious about game development in general, there’s plenty to learn!
