Call of Duty Datamine Reveals Visual Footstep Audio Indicator Similar to Fortnite Could be Coming

A dataminer has reportedly discovered a special “Audio Visualizer” setting coming to Call of Duty. Based on the description, it sounds very similar to Fortnite’s feature, and could be a controversial change to the franchise.

Audio is a vital component of shooters. While you can sense an enemy coming or use your eyes to track an opponent, being able to hear footsteps or a threat making noise can win you a firefight before it even begins. The CoD community has largely bemoaned the series’ footsteps audio across most of the games.

You might not have any excuses soon when it comes to Call of Duty audio.

X user Alaix is for getting the scoop on Call of Duty leaks and information ahead of time. If a feature or event is coming, they usually know about it and report it in advance. Well, they’ve found a mention of “Audio Visualizer” potentially arriving soon.

“Also, COD is becoming MORE AND MORE Fortnite. This is a real option that is coming,” they said in a July 2 message. Why? Because of this new setting that does the following: “Gives gameplay and audio cues a visual component to help players determine the sounds/action that are triggered near them.

As Alaix said, this sounds awfully familiar. For years, Fortnite has had a visual indicator feature that gives you the direction sounds are coming. It’s determined by the proximity of the sound and the type of noise being made, too.

For instance, if you’re near a chest, a passive shape will appear telling you a chest is close, or, if it’s gunfire, the outline is much livelier. Now, Call of Duty looks to have audio clues too.

We’ll take this with a pinch of salt for now, but don’t be surprised to see this come to fruition. Could the be a gamechanger? Or could this audio addition potentially ruin the Call of Duty franchise, depending on how it’s implemented? Let us know all your thoughts through the Insider Gaming forum.
