Oblivion Remake Will Be Released Next Week, It’s Claimed [UPDATED]

Update 15/04: Jeff Grubb has fully corroborated the claim that Oblivion will shadowdrop next week after April 21. He said, ‘Let’s update on Oblivion and the shadowdrop. The week of April 21, so basically the last week of this month – next week, essentially. I’ve gotten separate confirmation that that’s going to be the case.’

The original story below contains information related to the first claim that the Oblivion remake would drop on April 3. It was later updated by the claimant to suggest that it would drop on the week of April 21, but shortly after the claim was made, Detective Seeds’ social media profiles were hacked, and content was deleted. It has since returned to his feed.

Original coverage continues…

An insider has claimed that the Oblivion remake that has been the talk of the town for a while could suddenly be released tomorrow, April 3. Recently, it was suggested by another rumour that the Oblivion remake would be released ‘sooner than expected’, and April was touted as being the month when the reveal would take place.

In Our Dreams

The slew of rumours that have emerged regarding the Oblivion remake haven’t been all that wild, but we’re yet to see anything about the project. Per the claims, it’s in development at Virtuous Games and will be a full-blown rebuild of the 2006 title in Unreal Engine 5. It has been suggested that considerable upgrades have also been made to the game’s mechanics and combat systems.

It sounds great, but we don’t know a thing about it, including which platforms it’ll be released on, how much it’ll cost, and what it will look like.

On March 13, Nate The Hate posted on social media that he was expecting ‘news’ on the Oblivion remake to surface in April and that the release date for the game could be earlier than ‘the original June target’.

April is earlier than June, right?

Now, Detective Seeds has posted on Twitter with an all-new claim:

And here’s the updated claim that was posted a few days later:

He expanded in the comments, covering his tracks slightly by placing the responsibility of the rumour on an undisclosed source, explaining:

It is a little iffy if it is going to be this week or next. They were confident in it coming though.

With that being said, we’re not any closer to getting the truth. It could be tomorrow, it could be next week, or it could be June. Strangely, nothing has been revealed just yet, but a UE5 Elder Scrolls game, even a remake, would be a very welcome arrival right now.

  • Such a slap in the face to the Skyblivion Modding team. So petty. And it still won’t hold a candle to the work they have done.

  • Why is it petty and why is it a slap in the face? Gaming companies can’t be beholden to the wishes and desires of modders, come on man be reasonable. And with all due respect to the Skyblivion team, who I have no doubt are doing a great job, an official remake using Unreal 5 will be light years ahead of it

  • This is a ludicrous rumour. If Bethesda were really remaking Oblivion, and releasing it this soon, they would have said something, not just kept silent about it til the day of release. People have been craving a remaster, let alone a remake for so long, so it would be stupid to think they kept it quiet

  • I agree it’s a slap in the face to Skyblivion mod team. Skyblivion has been in the works for very long time and has now gained much more attention from fans. Bethesda knows it CAN charge $ for remake but seemingly had no interest in a remake until Skyblivion got the attention it did. They would’ve been better off just announcing their own remake in the works earlier as per usual for a studio. The only welcome news of this remake if true, would be if Bethesda secretly paid Skyblivion team to put their work into Unreal 5. But I’m sure we all know the answer to that. This has vulture tactics written all over it.

  • Honestly I’d rather play a remake UE5 Oblivion than the 2015 Engine Skyblivion. I think the remake will look a lot cleaner and have more graphical goodies.

  • I don’t think we are getting the game itself for a while! We will probably get a 10 second clip of the map and then 10 years later get the actual game on the PS 15, Xbox Series XXX, and the Switch 12!

  • Lol, so they would switch to the trashiest third party game engine on the market?
Unreal fanbois are so cringe. Have fun with your blurry, unstable pile of garbage.

  • To be honest I look forward more to Skyblivion then s official remake lot of volunteers work goes into a mod and at lest it know it run on my pc where as new official one may not and if it dose might be so buggy not funny that said I still get official just to see what’s all changed from the original.

  • Why are people crying about it beina slap in the face to the modders who have made Skyblivion? Are you forbidden to play it if you play a remake of Oblivion? It’s good for the people who don’t have a PC. Or are all PC players so up themselves that they don’t think about the wider community of gamers?

  • Oblivion is owned by Bethesda. Why in the hell would a modding community have more rights to remastering a Bethesda game than the company that owns the rights to it? That is insane! The Skyblivion team should be happy Bethesda is so chill about their work. If this was Nintendo, there would be no Skyblivion.

Unfortunately for Skyblivion, this will likely be lightyears ahead of it and far more accessible. That is the nature of modding, but in no way is Bethesda beholden to a modding community’s work when they own the IP. That is just ridiculous.
